I’ve been
posting Firsts of each year for a few years, but I thought this year it
would be fun to look at some of the things I learned, many of which resulted
from some firsts!
1 - Toilet tanks
really can freeze solid.
I learned
this from the first time I experienced sub-zero high temps for 30-days
straight.
2 - Sinovial

Today, as I
watch the snow falling softly and steadily, I have another of Montana’s Hidden Gems to share. This one truly cannot be seen, but it can be felt, and its
effects are witnessed through both touch and sight. This hidden gem is a
weather phenomenon known as a Chinook Wind.
I
experienced my first Chinook on October 12, 2018. I remember because it was two
days after I shoveled 10 running granny greenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18336014047211952370noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-496632532134065598.post-60813085303539852072018-11-06T12:50:00.003-08:002018-11-06T12:50:51.701-08:00Writing through November - or NaNoWriMo
I’m six days
into NaNoWriMo and its really quite a challenge. For me, there isn’t a lot of
writing that happens on the weekends. I have too many distractions on Saturday
and I truly believe Sunday should be a day of rest from worldly (and wordy)
pursuits. Weekday mornings seem to be my most productive time and yet I find a
lot of things to interrupt the writing process. Things like …

I’m biting the bullet and committing to NaNoWriMo this year! It's a challenge to write 50,000 during the month of November. Why? Because I’ve been finding other things to do and neglecting my writing.
That’s kind of like a bow hunter neglecting target practice, or a pianist who
never plays. Also because my better half encouraged me to do it. I’m already behind because it took me all day on running granny greenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18336014047211952370noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-496632532134065598.post-30839111251242832382018-10-22T11:22:00.000-07:002018-10-22T11:22:27.215-07:00Back to Baking with Sourdough
I recently
moved back to Montana and Returning to My Roots has presented some unique opportunities
for growth. For one, I decided it was time to grow a Sourdough Start for a
couple of reasons …
*It’s fun to
try new recipes,
*Shopping is
not as convenient as it once was,
*I hear
sourdough is good for you (this may or may not be fact),
*It just feels
like the right thing to do.

I recently shared a post about things Coming Home to Montana, items that are returning along with me. This post, however, is about
things new to Montana, items that just seem to fit here. Interesting enough, my
husband, a native Idahoan, is adjusting nicely to this new life. As of
yesterday, we are both registered voters!

Panorama of my out and back run
I expected to
see a fair amount of wildlife upon moving to Montana, and I have not been
disappointed. As bears, even grizzly bears, are often present in this part of
the world, I have been a bit nervous to venture very far when I run. I like to
think I am brave, but I have my limits. Bears are on my list of limitations!

Apricot Jam!
I fell heir to a few
apricots this weekend. Too many to eat before they ripen beyond fit for human
consumption, I chose to make some apricot jam. It was my first food preservation project since moving to Montana. It seemed like a good idea,
however, locating my canning supplies was a bit of a challenge. I found the
essentials but had to improvise as my canning funnel and running granny greenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18336014047211952370noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-496632532134065598.post-4524381253691595482018-06-28T08:47:00.000-07:002018-06-28T08:47:56.256-07:00Coming Home to Montana
My first shoes!
As I have had the opportunity to return to the land of my
roots, there are a few things that I bring with me that have their origin (as
close as I can determine) here as well. In my most recent blog post I promised
to share some of the items, besides myself, that have returned to Montana.

Here we go
again making New Year’s Resolutions and getting ready to break them! Why is it
so easy to identify a need for change, yet so difficult to master the change?
Could it be because the method we use to achieve the goal is not SMART? I’m
guilty. Sometimes I wish for a change and employ no method at all, thus setting
myself up for failure. A look back helps me evaluate how I am doing in this lifelong quest. Here are a

You might know that I’ve been training for a relay race
coming up in August. I was feeling rather pleased with my efforts. In fact, on
July 4th I ran a 5K and finished with my best time yet! I’m almost

I’m currently training for a relay race, Spokane to Sandpoint
2017. Part of the prepping for race weekend is preparing food, or fuel, for the
race. I’ve learned that it is unwise to add too many new foods to your diet
right before or during any race. Race day is not a good time to learn that your
insides don’t appreciate the foods you are giving them!

I write because putting thoughts on paper makes room in my head for more thoughts. I also write because I want to share little pieces of wisdom and great lessons I have learned throughout the years. Often, the simple act of writing brings satisfaction enough. Book sales are rewarding, too.
